For heightened mobility in your home, a stairlift is the answer

If you are experiencing impaired mobility through age, disability, obesity, or for any other reason, you will find that the installation of a stairlift might solve all your problems. It is relatively easy to install a stairlift, but the cost and design will vary according to the layout of your home, the design of your staircase, and the space available. There are many different models to choose from, both from the need of the individual and your personal taste as to having a chair customised. If your Exeter home has a curved staircase, it is possible to design a curved stairlift that will accommodate this.

There are a variety of stairlifts available in the market-place

The basic premise of a stairlift is that a chair runs on rails, and that these rails are attached to the tread of the staircase. Obviously, if you have a home with a straight staircase, it is easier to install the rails, and there would probably be no time delay in getting the stairlift installed. In many cases, the installation could be completed within 24 hours. If the staircase is curved, however, it will be necessary to have a design drawn up and the rails will need to be manufactured to suit the staircase. This might simply require a little more time, but the finished product would be equally effective.

If your home is built over several floors, and you need a continuous ride from the bottom to the top, it is possible for certain parts of the rails to be hinged and to be folded back when the stairlift is not in use. This is helpful to others in the home as the space taken up by the stairlift is minimised. Again, this would require additional design, as the chair that runs along the rails should remain level. If a rail changes direction or modifies its angle, the chair would need to adjust accordingly. All these features are available, depending on the client’s needs and the subsequent design. Chairs can come in a variety of colours and can even have a few luxuries built in. The footrests and the chair seat can also fold back depending on the need for space. There are also platforms for wheelchairs that can operate on these stairlift rails. In this case, there are flaps than fold down and act as a ramp which allows the wheelchair access. The wheelchair can then be secured to ensure a safe trip up and down the stairs.
